The Mini Swim Team (MST) program at Saguaro Aquatics is designed to bridge the gap between traditional swim lessons and competitive swim team. This program is ideal for swimmers who are ready to move beyond basic water safety and want to improve technique, endurance, and confidence in a structured, team-oriented environment—without the pressure of competition.

Program Goals & Philosophy

Our goal is to help swimmers develop strong swimming fundamentals, self-discipline, and a lifelong passion for swimming. In a positive and supportive team setting, our experienced Mini Swim Team coaches use encouragement, personalized feedback, and proven teaching methods to help each swimmer succeed.
With a 4:1 swimmer-to-coach ratio, consistent staffing, and a combination of hands-on, in-water instruction and out-of-water coaching, our instructors are able to tailor instruction to each swimmer’s learning style.
Workouts follow a progressive, developmental approach, focusing on:

  • Building endurance and conditioning
  • Refining stroke technique
  • Increasing confidence and independence in the water
Practice sessions are engaging, challenging, and fun—helping swimmers set achievable goals and celebrate progress as they grow into stronger, more confident athletes.

Benefits of the Mini Swim Team Program

Swimming provides benefits that go far beyond physical fitness. Research consistently shows that swimming at a young age supports mental focus, emotional regulation, and social development. MST participants gain valuable life skills while improving their swimming ability in a team-based environment.

What Swimmers Will Learn

Swimmers enrolled in Mini Swim Team will:
  • Have FUN while learning and improving
  • Refine all four competitive swim strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly)
  • Learn proper body positioning, swimming posture, and stroke mechanics
  • Practice stroke-appropriate turns
  • Build endurance, strength, and confidence through conditioning
  • Develop self-discipline and accountability
  • Learn to follow a written swim workout
  • Use a pace clock and swim at an appropriate pace
  • Participate in group learning with a strong focus on teamwork, listening skills, and good sportsmanship

Program Expectations & Participation Guidelines

Regular attendance is strongly encouraged to allow swimmers to progressively build skills and confidence. Swimmers are expected to give their best effort at each practice and take pride in their individual improvement and goal achievement.
As part of the Mini Swim Team community, swimmers must demonstrate respectful, supportive behavior toward coaches and fellow participants. Good manners and age-appropriate conduct are expected at all times and are a requirement for participation in Saguaro Aquatics’ Mini Swim Team program.
